Problem with LILO and 2 hard drive configuration
Just in case someone else uses this BIOS (the EPROM set-up program only says the setup program belongs to Compaq, no identification of the BIOS at all) Needless to say, Step 0 is to boot your system using either the boot diskette you created during Linux installation or the rescue mode from the installation CD.

Linux is Hard to Use: part 3
However,
I've waited a minute or two, and it still does nothing. Anyway, after pressing I to get more details, the last line says something to the effect of starting syslog:, and then nothing else. I tried changing the boot file to devfs=nomount, but then it would only show the kernel version with a Mandrake icon.

Missing Operating System
Case fan comes on but CPU fan does not and USB card shows 4 red lights. The one that DID boot however would not recognize either HD or CDROM. After swapping cables I turn on the power and nothing, and i mean NOTHING. No fan, no lights, nada, almost like I had tripped the surge protector or something.

System freezes
But is there no way to allow my present, functional system to boot cleanly and uniquely to its OS, to delete and obviate the option to go to Recovery Console? If a user changes motherboards and nothing, else, they usually have to do a repair install as well. I'm not certain if this is the issue here but it fits

Mandrake 7.2 freezes during app installation

Share Windows swap file?
I would like to be able to boot my Linux system off the 500MB partition (hda1). I tried to install LILO on the MBR of the 500MB and boot off hda1 but all I get (nothing) No part of LILO has been loaded. LILO either isn't installed or the partition on which it's boot sector is located isn't active. L(error).

Second hard drive causing blue screen error
It's sooooo much more efficient. But either way, I *shouldn't* be having this problem since ZA is supposed to be able to install with the old settings, as long as the previous program itself in't installed anymore. As for the error, there's no code. It's just a white box that says the program has performed an error

2.0.32, XNvidia, Vtk
I thought a boot sector virus was a possibility, so I installed a virus scanner, but it found nothing. Am I missing something? What else can I try? .... It still looks like either remnants of a disk mangler or a BIOS HD configuration error. Doubtful, VERY doubtful. supra If the BIOS setting can't be matched to that

di install failure on powerbook 2400c
So, it was reinstalled and then uninstalled but choosing to leave the changed files as they were changed by the install. Now, we got even odder error messages and can still only boot into safe mode. However, we cannot now go back to instal again as safe mode gives no CDRom drivers so we cannot reinstall to

I didn't think dos did, either. Very wrong......DOS has no multi-boot capability whatever......why were you using LILO, for exmaple? That's how I realized that I should just take my other memory when I had the TRAP002 error (it does say that that is usually a memory error, but I wouldn't have thought that OS/2

Norton Utilities 3 - Hard Disk Failing???
I never did find a way to run this by hand from DOS so I could read the messages, but I must confess I did not try too hard to do so either. Explorer error. I could do nothing. I could boot to DOS but nothing else. The system was dead. So I went to bed and wept and on Sunday I got up, reformatted the partition

Installation woes on Sun SPARCstation 20s.

Upgrade or Reinstall
I have tried running memmaker and booting with a minimal config.sys and autoexec.bat but still get the error. << We'll come back to that. autoexec.bat and config.sys as created by the DOS install are as follows. << Well, no. MS-DOS 6.22 installation would NOT create those files precisely as listed.

Sure, it's a little learning curve, but it's about like going from Win 3.1 to Win 95.. NO, actually. Almost nothing in Linux is like win95. .... when you do the "configure; make install" for that neat new MP3 player you just downloaded from weekendsoftware.com, and it blows up in 200 lines of incomprehensible error

Can't print when booting from floppy. What next?
You probably need to go into BIOS setup and change the boot order of the hard drives to boot from the one with the fresh install on it. Some BIOS's will change the primary boot .... Nothing else. And confirm that those components are properly seated. If you have a PS tester, use it. 3. Do you get a screen display?

moving xp to a larger disk with partition magic
Remove all but your boot hard drive and a single CD-ROM drive - if you have CD and DVD or CD and CDR/CDRW then remove all but the CD. If you have the ability to do so, now would be a good time to either create a hard drive image or a full backup using Microsoft Backup - if nothing else you have a minimal

Installing Debian on a 7200-series PPC
NO! I thought I said it had a total of 3 hard drives, but maybe not. Regardless, the problem only exists with the boot drive with all 3 OS's on it. OK. .... does the Win98SE partition on the new drive also boot well? If so, that would prove there is nothing far amiss with the installation itself.

What's the point
When I got to the step where you try to boot from the hard drive, it did not work. I can boot from the boot floppy created during installation. But when I try (<nothing>) No part of LILO has been loaded. LILO either isn't installed or the partition on which its boot sector is located isn't active. L <error> .
